Brunswick Interagency Program

The Brunswick Interagency Program (BIP) at Brunswick Community College is a nationally acclaimed initiative dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our mission is to empower students to fully integrate into the campus community, achieve their highest potential, gain independence, actively engage in their communities, and successfully transition into the workforce.

At the heart of BIP’s success are the pillars of purpose, support, friendship, and respect, which guide every aspect of our program. BIP offers a wide range of comprehensive services, including Adult Basic Education, Employment Resources, the BIP Greenhouse, and Transportation.

Adult Basic Education

Adult Basic Education (ABE) at BIP is dedicated to providing educational opportunities for adults who may have faced challenges during their public school years. Our ABE program focuses on creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students can build a solid educational foundation, enabling them to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Employment Resources

At BIP, we are dedicated to helping our students transition smoothly into the workforce by offering a range of employment resources tailored to meet their individual needs and aspirations. Our comprehensive program is designed to prepare students for meaningful employment through both on-campus and community-based opportunities.

Greenhouse

The Brunswick Blooms Greenhouse offers students a unique and enriching experience in horticulture. Through this program, students gain hands-on knowledge about plant care while also receiving an introduction to customer service and sales. The greenhouse serves as both an educational environment and a space where students can take pride in their work, fostering a sense of accomplishment and community.

Transportation

At BIP, we understand the importance of accessible and reliable transportation for our students. That’s why we offer comprehensive transportation services in partnership with the Brunswick Transit System, Inc. (BTS). Our goal is to ensure that every student can attend our programs with ease and convenience.

Paving the way for our future, one mind at a time

BCC and Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) were selected to be the IDD pilot programs for the NC Community College System (NCCCS) in hopes of helping the other 56 community colleges develop their Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities for Adults (IDD) Programs. The two pilot schools created a tool kit that included best practices and resources to help start, upgrade, and provide additional support.

For 25 years, Rachael Teeples has made the Brunswick Interagency Program (BIP) her second home. Originally from Utah, she moved to Brunswick County after high school and quickly found her place at BIP.

WHAT INTERESTS YOU? (CHOOSE UP TO 3)

WHAT CREDENTIAL ARE YOU HOPING TO EARN?

In about two years, you can earn an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or an Associate of Applied Science degree. Many students continue their education at a four-year college or university.
A diploma takes less time (9-18 months) than a degree and provides you with hands-on training and skills in a specific field. You are workforce ready.
If you want focused training in a specific skill or industry in less than one year, a certificate program may be for you.
In less than six months, you train for employment in a specific field or career type, short-term industry training programs are a great place to start. Some programs offer industry recognized credentials.
High School students can accelerate the completion of college certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees.
Complete a high school credential (GED®) that mirrors a public-school credential.
Prepares adults to take the High School Equivalency Test.
