New Endowment Honors the Life and Legacy of David Matthews, Jr.

David Matthews, Jr.

The Foundation of Brunswick Community College (BCC) is proud to announce the establishment of the David Matthews, Jr. Endowment, created through a generous $25,000 gift from the Matthews family in memory of their beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

The endowment will fund scholarships for students pursuing careers in the trades—including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and other skilled professions that were close to David’s heart.

David began his own journey in the trades at a community college, where he discovered a passion for hands-on learning and problem solving—particularly in the electrical field—that shaped his life and career. His family shared that this endowment will help further David’s enduring spirit of curiosity and his desire to help others experience the fulfillment of doing work they love.

“Through this gift, David’s legacy will live on in the success stories of BCC students who share his drive, determination, and love of learning,” said Teresa Nelson, Executive Director of The Foundation of Brunswick Community College. “We are deeply honored to help carry forward his memory through opportunities that change lives.”

The David Matthews, Jr. Endowment will provide ongoing financial support to students who demonstrate both need and passion for pursuing a career in the skilled trades—ensuring that David’s legacy continues to inspire generations to come.
