Access to Achievement

Access to Achievement is a program launched in 2023 aimed at boosting job opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in North Carolina. It ensures they have the chance to earn certificates, degrees, and diplomas in a supportive environment. This initiative is active at 15 community colleges across the state, each with a dedicated Access to Achievement Coordinator to guide you. Brunswick Community College is proud to be a participating institution.

Many North Carolinians with intellectual and developmental disabilities believe they don’t have the option to go to college or pursue their dreams. Access to Achievement changes that.

Access to Achievement fosters support for:

  • Education Programs: We provide guidance to help students discern their ideal career path and support their pursuit of a degree, credential, or micro-credential to realize their aspirations.
  • Personalized Plans for Success: Collaborating closely with students, we develop tailored plans that leverage their distinct strengths and interests while proactively addressing potential challenges, empowering them to succeed.
  • Education Cost Management: We offer insights into available financial options, equipping students to make well-informed decisions regarding the funding of their education.
  • Inclusive College Experiences: We foster an inclusive campus experience, encouraging students to immerse themselves in campus life, forge meaningful connections, and benefit from our peer mentoring program for enhanced support and community.
  • Collaboration with College Faculty and Staff: We partner with college faculty and staff to ensure that students receive the resources and support essential to their academic and personal growth.
  • Employment: We prepare students for career success through targeted job search assistance, skills development, internships, and immersive work experiences.
