Cardiovascular Technician
Lecture & laboratory to include Cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, ECG language, cardiac rhythm and sinus rules, atrial rhythms, junctional rhythms, ventricular rhythms, AV blocks, tachycardia, bradycardia, PVC, pacemakers, timing, cardiac stress, halter monitor, operating EKG machine. CPR class and certification exam included. Class trip to facilities actively performing cardiovascular testing. This is a 112 hour course which leads to National Certification.
Certified Substance Abuse Counselor
Substance abuse is a national problem that shows no discretion and impacts everyone. Brunswick Community College is now offering the Substance Abuse Counseling program. Our program and courses have been approved by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board (NCSAPPB). The Substance Abuse program is designed to prepare students for a career in the substance abuse field and assist them in the process of State Certification/Licensure. The program is made up of 3 individual courses:
- Introduction to Addictions Counseling
- Treatment of Addictions
- Contemporary Issue in Addictions Treatment

These programs are specifically designed to fulfill initial requirements for Certification/Licensure by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board.
There will be some additional requirements to become a certificated substance abuse counselor such as supervision and clinical experience, students will be responsible for completing these requirement. For additional information on the state requirement to become a CSAC, go to

Nurse Aide I
This course combines lecture and laboratory with a clinical experience at a designated health care agency. Upon completion of this course the student will be eligible to take the North Carolina State Nurse Aide I exam. Students are required to wear a uniform, purchase textbooks / listed supplies, complete the two day HRD Career focus requirement, health history, physical exam, immunizations, copy of driver’s license and social security cards prior to registering. CPR certification is included. All prospective students must pick up the Health History/Immunization packet when registering for HRD Career focus class.
Patient Care Technician
This is a 396 Hour Course combining Lecture, Lab & clinical. This Course integrates Pathophysiology with Anatomy & Physiology. Other topics include: Medical Terminology, legal, fundamental skill sets, Phlebotomy, EKG, Assisting with Procedures. Clinical Rotations will take place in Hospital and Medical Offices.
Pre-requisites: All students must be Certified Nurse Aide I on NC state registry and have completed a State Approved Nurse Aide I.
Pharmacy Technician
This is a 168 hour long course which includes information necessary to successfully pass the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Examination (PTCE).
