BCC is celebrating a major milestone this week as longtime Men’s Basketball Head Coach Walter Shaw secured his 500th career win on Saturday. The victory came in commanding fashion as the Dolphins topped CCBC-Catonsville from Catonsville, MD during BCC’s Pre-Thanksgiving Classic. The team now holds a strong 5–1 record to open the season.

Now in his 26th year at the helm—and 30th with the program—Coach Shaw is already the winningest active coach in NJCAA Region 10-D1. His legacy includes seven Region 10 Division I Regular Season Championships, four Region 10-D1 Tournament Titles, three Atlantic District Championships, and six Coach of the Year honors. Just last season, his 2025 squad tied a program record with a 28–5 finish and made its third trip to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

Beyond the scoreboard, Coach Shaw continues to shape futures. Under his leadership, 173 Dolphins have transferred to four-year colleges and universities, including 69 to NCAA Division I programs. Many have gone on to play professionally across the globe. His commitment to academic success is just as strong—his program maintains a 95% matriculation rate for sophomore players.

A Riegelwood native, Shaw began his coaching career at BCC at just 19 years old and became head coach at 23. In 2021, BCC honored his leadership and legacy by naming the basketball court in his honor. Congratulations, Coach Shaw!
