BCC President, Small Business Center Director Among WilmingtonBiz 100
This year’s WilmingtonBiz 100 honorees include President Gene Smith and Small Business Center Director April Scott. The WilmingtonBiz 100 is an annual Greater Wilmington Business Journal initiative to recognize the top 100 Power Players, Influencers, Innovators, Connectors, and Rising Stars impacting Southeastern North Carolina’s business landscape.
Selected as one of the Top Influencers, President Smith led BCC’s efforts to provide workforce training and education for 1,750 curriculum students and more than 2,000 continuing education students. He also spearheaded the new Myong and Paul Jensen Workforce Development Center and efforts to secure a Golden LEAF Foundation grant to purchase new equipment for BCC’s Machining Technology program. That program and other technical training at BCC helped convince Precision Swiss Products to make Brunswick County home.
If yours is one of the 90 businesses that April Scott helped open, it should be no surprise to see her name on the list of Top Connectors. In addition to assisting individual businesses to open their doors, Scott has trained more than 3,000 business owners in ways to help ensure their success. Most recently, Scott established and implemented the first-ever Womenpreneur Empowerment Summit in collaboration with BCC and with funds from the NC IDEA Foundation.
We are incredibly proud of and grateful for President Gene Smith and April Scott. You can read more about their accomplishments in the Winter 2022 issue of WilmingtonBiz Magazine, hitting new stands and mailboxes this week.
