BCC Names New Head Softball Coach

Softball Coach, Karlyn Stephens smiling

BCC is excited to announce the appointment of Karlyn Stephens as the new Head Softball Coach for the Dolphins. A seasoned educator, coach, and athletics leader, Stephens brings more than two decades of coaching experience and a lifelong commitment to student success.

A native of Whiteville, North Carolina, Stephens earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education from UNC Wilmington and later completed her master’s degree in physical education at UNC Pembroke. She began her teaching and coaching career at East Columbus High School in 1997, where she spent 15 years guiding student athletes on the softball field, basketball court, soccer pitch, and volleyball court. Multiple conference championships marked her tenure and cemented her desire to help students grow through sport.

In 2012, Stephens joined Southeastern Community College as an instructor and head softball coach, eventually becoming the college’s Athletic Director in 2019. In that role, she supported coaches, strengthened athletic programming, and championed opportunities for student athletes, an experience she considers one of the great highlights of her career.

After retiring in May 2025, Stephens settled into life in Ocean Isle Beach, where she enjoys fishing, staying active in the coastal community, and cheering on athletes from the sidelines. Now, she’s ready to bring her passion back to the diamond.

“We are thrilled to welcome Karlyn to Dolphin Athletics,” said Robbie Allen, BCC Athletic Director. “Her experience, leadership, and heart for student athletes make her an incredible fit for our program. She understands the impact a coach can have on a student’s life, and we’re excited to see that shine through here at BCC.”

Stephens will begin working with student athletes immediately as the Dolphins prepare for an exciting season ahead. To learn more about Dolphins Athletics, contact Allen at [email protected], or visit gobccsports.com.
