BCC Dedicates Myong and Paul Jensen Workforce Development Center

April 14, 2022 — Trades education in Brunswick County was front and center today as Brunswick Community College (BCC) and the BCC Foundation joined donors, board members, instructors, and local leadership in cutting the ribbon for the Myong and Paul Jensen Workforce Development Center.

“Today’s ribbon cutting and building dedication celebrates the incredible generosity of Myong and Paul Jensen and highlights the commitment BCC has for short-term workforce programs to support the workforce needs and citizens of our county,” said Dr. Gene Smith, BCC President. “It’s the culmination of an eight month-long transformation of an aquaculture facility that served our community for over 22 years into a dedicated space to provide a state-of-practice facility to serve our trades education and technical programs.”

The Jensen Center’s newly renovated trades labs will provide learning space for carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical lineworker, and more. The facility provides 6,572 total square feet of space, including 3,052 square feet of lab and work bay instructional space, and 1,908 square feet of classroom space.

The renovations include new tiles in the hallway, epoxy floors in the lab bays, new ceiling tiles, air vents, lighting upgrades and repairs, new instructional furniture, office renovations and furniture, job-related artwork, new student work stations and toolkits, and landscaping.

In the spring of 2021, the Jensen’ss established an endowed scholarship to assist students seeking two-year degrees in curriculum programs and those pursuing short-term workforce certifications. The Jensen Endowed Scholarship and the Myong and Paul Jensen Workforce Development Center will ensure current and future students have access to high-quality educational experiences.

The Foundation and the College are incredibly grateful for the Jensen’s generous support and their commitment to creating opportunities for Brunswick County residents. Following the dedication, guests enjoyed tours and information sessions.
