Brunswick Community College (BCC) President Gene Smith has announced four leadership changes, recognizing the exceptional dedication, service, and impact of Carmen Ellis, Santresa Fulford, Onya Gardner, and Julia Stuart.

“These leaders represent the very best of Brunswick Community College,” said Dr. Smith. “Each of them has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to student success, operational excellence, and the long-term strength of this institution. Their leadership has already shaped the lives of countless students, and I am excited to see the continued positive impact they will make in these new roles.”

Those advancing to new roles are:

Carmen Ellis, Vice President of Student Services
Carmen Ellis has devoted much of her career to serving BCC students and the College community. For over 17 years, she has advanced through multiple roles within Student Services, gaining a deep understanding of the full student journey from first contact to graduation. Her leadership has played a vital role in strengthening advising, enrollment processes, retention efforts, and wraparound student support services that remove barriers and help students succeed. As Vice President of Student Services, Ellis will continue guiding a division that is often the first and most frequent point of contact for BCC students, ensuring every learner feels supported, informed, and encouraged every step of the way.

Santresa Fulford, Associate Vice President for Budget and Finance
A proud BCC alumna, Santresa Fulford began her career in restaurant management before discovering a passion for accounting and returning to BCC in 2008 as a non-traditional student. After graduating in 2010, she joined the College’s Business Office and later advanced to Director of Fiscal Services in 2020. Her deep understanding of

BCC’s financial systems and dedication to student-centered operations have positioned her to further strengthen the College’s financial foundation.

Onya Gardner, Associate Vice President of Continuing Education and Workforce Development
Brunswick County native Onya Gardner began her career at BCC in 2007, and has progressed through roles including Administrative Assistant, Internal Auditor, Dean, and now Associate Vice President. Throughout her tenure, she has championed workforce training and credential programs that expand access to education and career-ready skills, with a focus on breaking cycles of generational poverty and empowering students to achieve lasting success.

Julia Stuart, Associate Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Initiatives
Julia Stuart joined BCC in 2021 as Director of Marketing and Public Relations and has overseen all aspects of the College’s marketing and communications efforts, including the website, social media, digital advertising, graphic design, signage, media relations, and special events. She has led strategic initiatives to strengthen BCC’s brand and boost enrollment, contributing to record enrollment growth year after year. She previously served in leadership marketing roles at UNC Charlotte and the Gaston Regional Chamber.

Together, these promotions reflect BCC’s continued investment in strong leadership and its mission to support student success, workforce development, and community impact across Brunswick County and beyond.
