Medical Assisting at BCC
The Medical Assisting program prepares students to perform administrative, clinical, and laboratory procedures in a healthcare setting. BCC offers both Degree and Diploma options.
Earn an Associate Degree
Students who graduate with a Diploma in Medical Assisting with 42 credits may continue to pursue an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Medical Assisting. The BCC Medical Assisting program has an exam pass rate of 100% for the 2019 graduating cohort. This rate surpassed the national average of 62%.
Diploma Program
Course work includes instruction in assisting with clinical examinations/treatments, performing routine laboratory procedures, electrocardiography, supervised medication administration, confidentially/HIPAA training and ethical/legal issues associated with patient care; administratively instruction includes training in scheduling appointments, coding, and processing insurance accounts, billing, collections, computer operations, and basic administrative office procedures.
Graduates of CAAHEP-accredited medical assisting programs may be eligible to sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants’ Certification Examination to become Certified Medical Assistants. Employment opportunities include physicians’ offices, urgent care facilities, specialty offices, and health departments. (www.aama-ntl.org) (AAMA).
