Bright Future Ahead for BCC Nursing Grads

class of 2022 Nursing Graduates

September 22, 2022 — The future is bright for the 22 Nursing students who graduated from BCC with their Associate Degree in Nursing last week. The ceremony occurred at BCC’s Odell Williamson Auditorium and included remarks from President Gene Smith and Director of Nursing Shaylene Ball, MSN, RN. Students participated in the pinning and lighting of Nightingale Lamps.

The graduates will soon take the NCLEX-RN exam and earn the title of Registered Nurse. Next, it’s on to jobs in Med/Surgical, Labor & Delivery, ICU, and the Emergency Departments at UNC REX and Carolinas Medical Center. Others will begin their careers at Dosher, Onslow, or Norton hospitals.

Affectionately dubbed the “Covid Class,” these students endured an extra 12 weeks of training on top of the original two-year/five-semester program due to pandemic-related delays and closures. That didn’t dim their spirits, though, as this class is more than ready to make its mark.

Graduates include Olivia Battle, McKenzie Blake, Shana Boose, Kristin Braxton Hughes, Lauren Cook, Kathryn Fleming, Karyn Goane, KC Jones-Henson, Deanna Kearns, Nicole Kelley, Cassandra Layell, Allison Lee, Taya Lindenmuth, Stephanie Long, English Bordeaux, Heather Nolan, Taylor Pigott, Alyssa Scott, Emalee Skumanick, Tanessa Vavra, Destinee Way, and Chris Wehbe. Congratulations to all!
