Brunswick Community College (BCC) is introducing several updates to its Nursing Programs designed to provide greater flexibility for prospective students while maintaining the high standards of education and preparation required for careers in healthcare.

Beginning with the Fall 2027 admission cycle, Students applying to BCC’s Nursing Programs for Fall 2027 do not need CNA certification at the time of application. However, they must obtain their CNA certification before August 1, 2027, to begin the program. This adjustment gives students additional time to fulfill an important prerequisite while moving forward with the admissions process.

The College is also transitioning its Nursing Programs from a summer start to a fall start in 2027. The change aligns the programs with the traditional academic calendar and provides students with improved access to financial aid opportunities.

“Every student comes to us with different experiences, responsibilities, and goals,” said Dr. Robert Robinson, Dean of Health Sciences at Brunswick Community College. “We recognize that flexibility can make a meaningful difference in a student’s ability to pursue nursing education. These updates allow us to better serve prospective students while maintaining the academic rigor and hands-on training needed to prepare them for the demands of the profession.”

BCC offers four nursing pathways to meet students at different stages of their education and professional lives:

· Associate Degree Nursing (ADN): Prepares students to pursue licensure as registered nurses.

· Practical Nursing (PN): Prepares students to pursue licensure as licensed practical nurses.

· Associate Degree Nursing – LPN to ADN Transition: Designed for licensed practical nurses who want to advance their education and pursue registered nursing licensure.

· Associate Degree Nursing – Paramedic to ADN Bridge: Provides experienced paramedics an opportunity to build on their healthcare training and pursue registered nursing licensure.

The College has also welcomed three new nursing instructors, further strengthening its faculty team as the programs continue to grow. Their addition reflects BCC’s continued investment in quality nursing education and student support. Prospective students are required to attend an in-person Nursing Information Session before applying. These sessions provide an opportunity to explore the available pathways, understand admissions requirements, meet with program representatives, and ask questions.

Applications for Fall 2027 open December 1, 2026, and close January 29, 2027. Students are encouraged to attend an information session early to prepare for the application process.

The updates come as BCC prepares to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Associate Degree Nursing program in 2027. Since its inception, the College’s nursing program has grown and evolved to meet the changing healthcare needs of the region and the students it serves.
